I went to Yoga for the first time at NIFS. I took Hatha Yoga at IU a few years back and I had not had a class since. They charge you to take Yoga at IU, but at NIFS, it is included in your membership fee. So I got that going for me, which is nice. It was very relaxing and challenging. I am not as flexible as I was, so when we were doing some poses, the instructor said "Some of you may need some bricks". She gave some to the people next to me, but they didn't need them. I was the only guy in the class, it was obvious it was I who needed the bricks.
I checked my voice mail on the way home and forgot that my finance had RCIA class that evening. So I was going to have to make dinner on my own. I was starving after doing Yoga for an hour, so I thought I'd check out Yats, which is literally across the street from our condo. I got the white chili with chicken on a bed of rice with a side of spicy bread. It was amazing! It was a little spicy, made me sweat a little, but it hit the spot. Best of all, it was only $5.50. So if you are ever on Mass Ave or Broad Ripple, you got to check it out!
White Chili
Regina’s own recipe of white navy beans and chunks of chicken is a little bit spicy, so ask for sour cream, cheese, and onions to cool things down a little. You’ve never had chili this good or this healthy.
My finance and I work out at the National Institute of Sport and Fitness which happens to be right by White River State Park, home of the 2006 Rib America Festival, also known as Ribfest. The smell of the BBQ could not keep us away, so we went to check it out. "The Rib America Festival is a fun filled family event
featuring award winning BBQ, live entertainment from national, regional and local talent, and more!"
So who were the great musical artists there?
- Two pulled pork BBQ sandwiches: 5 tickets each (~$7.15 each)
- One HALF slab of Ribs: 10 tickets (~$14.29)
- Two 20oz bottles of Dasani Water: 3 tickets each (~$4.29)
- One corn on the cob: 3 tickets (~$2.86 + $2 for purchasing one ticket: $4.86)
- Three deep fried Oreo cookies: 3 tickets (~$4.29)
- One Lemonade: 3 tickets (~$4.29)
The food was good, but not great. We had to eat with paper products on the ground. We didn't bring charis to sit in. I would have rather went to smokey bones for BBQ. I could have sat in a booth and had someone bring me my food and drink. I could have used a clean restroom and not a port-o-let. We would have saved money, did we enjoy the music? Well, we didn't stick around for the music. We went back to my place to watch Wedding Crashers.
My best friend from high school came in town to visit yesterday. We went to Scholar's Inn, which happens to be right across the street from my condo. It also happened to be 50% off martinis. So you don't have to feel bad about ordering that $10 drink because you only paid $5. It was kind of nice, they serve food there, so there is no smoking, which I like. I come from Bloomington knowing the greatness of a smoke free bar. IUPUI is now smoke free, so you have to go off the campus to smoke. I'm not going to complain. Anyway, I highly recommend you check it out. I suggest the chocolate decadence martini.
Well I have been living downtown for a little over a week now. I am starting to love it. Examples:
- Went to the bars Sat night, took me one min to walk there and one min to walk home.
- Walked to Circle Center, bought a shirt
- Walked to the grocery store, bought ice cream
- Walked to breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
I have not walked to work yet, but I plan on it. It only takes me 5 minutes to get to work (parking lot to parking lot). I live in the "arts district", which a lot of people say is the gay district. I am not going to complain. I loved Chelsea in NY and the Castro in SF. Lots of great places to eat, nice people, and it's very clean.
My sister (inwardeye) came to visit this weekend. She loved it, now only if she will move back.
