What is the price to be paid for free speech? The Dixie Chicks were criticized by the American media and the American public for voicing their opinions. Now they want to hear what your views are on freedom of expression.

What I don't get is why they would think any of their fans would care which way they lean politically. I'd rather not know and I don't really see what it has to do with them as artists. And why should I care what they think over what anyone else thinks? They should have just kept their mouth shut or sang a song about it and left it at that. Whatever happened to good old RESPECT for your country and its leaders? I think their "criticism" could have been voiced better.

The best way to respect your country is to be critical of your leaders and the decisions they make. I think we should encourage people to speak out because this is America. We have the freedom of speech and we should exercise it. If you don't like what they have to say, don't listen. I'll quote of my favorite movie's The American President.

"America isn't easy. America is advanced citizenship. You gotta want it bad, because it is going to put up a fight. It is going to say "You want free speech? Let's see you acknowledge a man whose words make your blood boil, who's standing center stage and advocating at the top of his lungs that which you would spend a lifetime opposing at the top of yours."
